Japanese architecture studio FujiwaraMuro Architects (Shintaro Fujiwara / Yoshio Muro) has recently completed a single family house in Muko, Kyoto prefecture, Japan.
Kengo Kuma & Associates wanted to create a modern interpretation of the hut using contemporary materials and construction techniques.
The building, designed by Ryue Nishiziwa, sits on a narrow lot and has an open floor plan with virtually no interior walls. A winding staircase curves through every floor, supporting the vines and lush plant life as they grow upwards through to the roof.
Designed by architects Harunatsu-Archi (Shoko Murakaji, Naoto Murakaji) the single-storey Villa 921 is located in Iriomote,, which is a part of Okinawa in the south of Japan. With an area of over 90% covered by subtropical virgin forest, the entire island is designated as a national park.
